The Octagon returns to Winnipeg for the first time in over eight years at the Canada Life Centre. The primary challenge for former title challenger Gilbert "Durinho" Burns is snapping a four-fight losing streak against a surging opponent a decade his junior. The objective for the hometown hero, Mike Malott, is to solidify his transition from prospect to top-10 contender by defeating the most decorated veteran he has ever faced.
Strategically, the goal for this welterweight main event is to see if Burns can still impose his elite BJJ game on a physical powerhouse like Malott. The tactical focus for "Proper" Mike is to utilize his range and explosive striking to catch Burns, who has shown vulnerability to power shots in recent outings.
